Students looked at pictures of plants and animals to observe that simple patterns and repetition occur in nature. They used colors, shapes, and lines to create a sunflower out of tempera paint that contained repeating shapes.
Students practiced cutting shapes --circles and triangles--to make a colorful treat. They imagined creative flavors for each scoop based on the color, then used lines and dots for sprinkles and of course, a cherry on top!
We read Not Norman: A Goldfish Story by Kelly Bennett, and talked about the different kinds of pets people have. Students practiced tearing, cutting, and tissue paper collage to make their own pet goldfish, bowl and all!
We talked about seasons and signs of spring, like flowers blooming and baby animals being born. We read Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, and students cut shapes of different colors to create a spring scene with a rabbit hiding (and one duck!)
If you had a robot, what would you want it to do? Make cookies! Clean my room! These were some of the tasks kindergarteners chose.They practiced drawing and paper collage, using lines, shapes, and colors to make their own personal robots.
