I'm Mrs. Kapchinske and I'm having a blast teaching art to the amazing students at Solana Ranch Elementary!

In Room 102, we are exploring various artists, media, and techniques, all while having lots ofcreative, messy, and colorful fun.

I created this website to share with you some of the projects created by our awesome K-6 artists. Enjoy!

NOTE: This page is from my years as an art teacher from 2015-2017.

I'm no longer at SR but I can't bring myself to delete my students' artwork!

Welcome to Art Class at Solana Ranch!

The Art Curriculum

Our art curriculum is guided by the Calfornia Department of Education's Visual and Performing Arts Framework for California Public Schools. At each grade level, students carry out activities to address the following strands: Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, and Aesthetic Valuing.

Through engaging projects, students learn the elements of art, gain skills using a variety of art media, recognize influential artists and the cultural value of art both past and present.

Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards are frequently

incorporated into art projects to complement classroom lessons and enhance student learning across the curriculum.

a little bit about me...

I am a professional artist and have been an educator for nearly 20 years. I began as a secondary school teacher in Zimbabwe with the U.S. Peace Corps. In addition to science and health classes, I taught extracurricular art classes after school.

Since then, I have developed K-12 curriculum and classroom materials for educational publishers. I have written and edited content for textbooks, lesson videos, animated tutorials, and online assessments for school districts and companies nationwide including Discovery Education, Scantron, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. I have also authored an educational children's book for Arbordale Publishing and written children's poetry featured in Ladybug Magazine.

In additional to teaching art, I enjoy creating and selling original paintings and mixed media artwork online and at local businesses and markets. I and have completed several courses in drawing, 2D design, 3D design, ceramics, painting, mosaic, and mixed media techniques. I especially love teaching and sharing my enthusiasm and passion for art with my wonderful students at Solana Ranch!
